Freezing Cold House During the Big Freeze. Oops!
So, even though we sell home heating oil, we're not immune to botching up the timer....on the coldest day of the decade!
Someone in a staff member's home accidentally knocked the timer to "off" yesterday and the family returned to a freezing cold house (about 14 degrees).
The entire heating system was cold to the core. The radiators were cold. The rooms were cold. The boiler had to burn through a lot of fuel (and money) for the house to reach ambient temperature (it got there sometime during the night).
Achieving Ambient Temperature:
What is ambient temperature? It's 19 degrees celcius. In weather like this we recommend you turn the thermostat to this level and keep the heat on constant - this gives you wiggle to increase/decrease the temperature when required without costing you a fortune.
It costs less to keep a warm system warm and it greatly reduces the risk of getting sick (the cost of days off work/school, GP fees, medication etc).
If you have any pets, please bring them in and dry their paws and coat as they too are feeling the freeze and veterinary bills are another cost you want to avoid.
