Q: What does a heat pump use to heat the house?

Because gas and oil are tangible goods - delivered to your door by a branded supplier who requests payment for the goods and services you have received - many people look bewildered when presented with the idea that neither the product or the service are necessary to generate a warm house. So, if you eliminate them both, how on earth do you heat your house?

Reverse Refrigeration:

When you buy a fridge, you set the temperature dial so that the built-in motor keeps the air in the fridge, and therefore your food, consistently cool. A heat pump also contains a motor that does the opposite job - it pulls in cold air, warms it, releases it into your radiators to heat your rooms via radiators or an underfloor heating system.

A heat pump has an outside evaporator - it looks a like a car radiator with lots of fins. When you switch the heat pump on - manually or on a timer - air is moved through the evaporator by a fan which boils the air at a very low temperature. A heat pump can warm your house or building even when it is as cold as -15 degrees Celsius outside.

We love heat pumps because they have the potential to keep the temperature in your home at a constant ambient temperature of 19.5 degrees Celsius so you no longer have to worry about boosting the system or keeping it on constant if you're at home all day.

Air Fueled Central Heating:

It is thought that air-fueled central heating dates back to the year 200 but the first reliable record dates back to the 1200s. The city hall in Luneber and Marburg Castle, Germany had a warm-air central heating system. With the Industrial Revolution, warm-air central heating systems became even more sophisticated thanks to the inventions of Wlliam Strutt in England around 1805. In those days, cold air was pushed into a wrought iron air chamber and heated in a furnace. The resulting warm air was then channelled along pipes and released into rooms via ducts.

Air and Water Heat Pump:

The modern heat pump is an improvement on those early designs:

  • It is the only air-based heat pump that can be installed in seaside locations as it's resistant to salt corrosion.
  • It doesn't require a fan required to pull air over the evaporator – natural air flow is enough.
  • The compressor is the only moving part.
  • It can be mounted onto roofs, walls and in gardens to protect the aesthetics of your home.
  • Incorporates Air and Geo Thermal heat sources ensuring optimum performance in the toughest of climates.

The Future Has Arrived

The future global goal is to deliver free energy for everybody. The air around your home is gifted to you everyday by Mother Nature and it has the potential to keep your home warm all day, every day.

When you invest in an AirGo Heat Pump, you will no longer have to worry about the cost of oil/gas hitting the floor or going through the roof according to politics and economics - the cost of air is free and it will always be free - and this marks the first step towards achieving completely free energy for everyone.
